Respecting Stakeholders’ Voice & Vision
While the business analyst/project manager’s (BA) role during requirements analysis may appear to be leading the effort, this person must remember the goals and eventual realization of them into project deliverables should reflect the needs of stakeholders, and not their own.
The requirements analysis reflects many collaborative efforts, beginning with measuring the current and future states, then gap analysis between the two to assess unfilled needs. Even during these initial stages when building the foundation for the project, the BA must assign greater value to stakeholder input over their own as they possess more experience then themselves, even with their biases.
Since the foundational understanding for requirements reflects stakeholder-driven information, future milestones should reflect the intent of the team over that of the BA.
This article is just example of how the BA role is one of a steward and guide of requirements and not one of author or principal.
